Louis Vuitton, Thought-Provoking?

The romance of fashion. Your local bike messenger is probably a scrawny, over-inked meth head with bad hair, but in the eyes of Paul Helbers and his team at Louis Vuitton, bike messengers are "the gentlemen butterflies" of the city, in honor of whom they created a collection that celebrated sleek, aerodynamic athleticism.

With pants rolled up at the ankles and parkas, bomber jackets and trench coats, often in nylon or Neoprene, this was a new urban version of Louis Vuitton's travel heritage. Yet if the outfits - give or take a wine red tuxedo - were Manhattan central, the bags were 100 percent classic Gallic Vuitton. Not a nylon or canvas fabric to be found among the fine leather messengers, weekend bags and luxury backpacks.

Still, albeit inventive and - even if this sounds silly to say about clothes - thought-provoking, the collection felt like a stretch for a luxury brand and, ultimately, felt like it should be called Louis Vuitton Sport.

Louis Vuitton Men’s Wear Show

This season, Louis Vuitton men's wear is peddling an energetic fashion-meets-function theme for spring, inspired by New York City's risk-taking bike messengers. These "gentleman butterflies of the urban landscapes" are bright from Paul Helbers. Yellow, orange and white opening looks made for one of the most summery collections we have seen on the Paris menswear catwalks so far- before a more sedate color palette of mauve, taupe, maroon and grey took over.

In New York, On a sandy asphalt surface and with honking horns shrilling from speakers, the duo started with a washed linen blazer in taxi yellow paired with rolled-up shorts to set a downtown rush-hour mood. From there, they juxtaposed cropped nylon hoodies with sports jackets and handsome, ribbed cotton sweaters.

The program had plenty of ideas - like hipster, abstract expressionist splash painted nylon blazers, which, in a zany use of technology turned out to be blown up images of butterfly wings. Eat your heart out.

Do you still fall in love with the 2009 Cruise collection? Maybe you are a bit out of date. Here comes the 2010 Cruise collection. Cruise show season is kind of odd - instead of having a proper Fashion Week where all of the collections are presented together, they're released slowly in shows around America and Europe, each with very different backdrops and moods. For example, Chanel, a brand that always shows at Paris Fashion Week, chose to present its Cruise collection this year on a Venice boardwalk.

Louis Vuitton, another house that traditionally shows in Paris, didn't have a real show at all - instead, the clothes were presented as we see them here. It's a more understated choice for a more informal season and smaller collection, but that doesn't mean the sailor-and-pinup-inspired clothes and accessories are any less exciting. In fact, they're refreshingly clean and pretty, but with just enough 80s urban influence to put Louis Vuitton creative director Marc Jacobs' signature spin on the retro looks.

Black Eye Peas Appeared in Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2010 Fashion Show

This clutch is similar to the Limelight that everyone went nuts over, but it takes it to a new level, adding studs, a color combo, and satin and leather combo as well. Gorbachev Advertised for Louis Vuitton

As I heard from CNN the other day, "Move over Scarlett Johansson! Mikhail Gorbachev is the new face of Louis Vuitton.

The former Soviet leader is to appear in an ad campaign for the French luxury label, along with Steffi Graf and her husband, Andre Agassi, and Catherine Deneuve, said a statement Thursday from Vuitton, a division of the LVMH group, Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SA.

Shot by photographer Annie Leibovitz, the ads focus on travel -- a "core value" for the company that started in 1854 as a trunk-maker, the statement said.

Gorbachev is featured in a car, a Vuitton bag at his side and the Berlin Wall in the background. Graf and Agassi are shown snuggling in a hotel room bed. A vampy Deneuve sits perched on a Vuitton suitcase in a foggy train station -- or is it a movie set?

Vuitton said it was making donations to former Vice President Al Gore's The Climate Project to fight global warming and Green Cross International, founded by Gorbachev to promote sustained development. The company didn't disclose the amount of the donations.

The campaign -- which is to run alongside more traditional fashion ads that in past seasons have featured Johansson -- will appear in magazines in September."

Madonna’s New Louis Vuitton Ads

Eat your heart out, Guy. Madonna's new campaign for Louis Vuitton proves that she's not one to let a bitter divorce and a birth certificate that says she's 50 bring her down. Shot by photographer Steven Meisel, the new ads show the Material Girl putting those yoga classes to good use while showing off two Louis Vuitton purses. I'm kind of into the exotic beading on the classic monogram style, but I have to save that the mustard-hued version with the oversized beads leaves me a little cold. What do you think?
